Setting up your Estate Kit takes about 10 minutes. Here's what to expect.
What you'll need before you start
- A working email address you check regularly, or a Google account if you'd rather sign in with single sign-on (this is how we send security alerts and life-event prompts).
- A payment method. Estate Kit is a single annual subscription, and you'll enter payment as part of signup (see Plans and pricing).
- A mobile phone for multi-factor authentication (required to finish creating your account; see Setting up and managing MFA).
Step 1: Visit estatekit.com and click Subscribe
Click Subscribe on the homepage to start the signup flow.
Step 2: Pick a plan and enter payment
- Estate Kit is CAD $199 / year, one plan, annual subscription.
- You can also set one up as a gift for a parent, partner, loved one, or friend (see Gift plans: sending and redeeming).
- Buying for more than one person? A 15% multi-purchase discount applies. Each person gets their own account because every estate is its own legal entity, with its own executors, beneficiaries, and documents to organize, even between spouses.
- Enter your payment information. Your Estate Kit subscription payment is processed by Stripe. Any credit-card information you choose to store inside your Estate Kit (for example, listing your credit cards for your Executor's reference) is optional and encrypted at rest. Card information for your Estate Kit subscription itself is only stored by Stripe.
Step 3: Create and secure your account
- Option A. Continue with Google. Pick "Continue with Google" and sign in with your Google account. No separate password or email-verification step.
- Option B. Email + password. Enter your email address, create a password (at least 11 characters; for your security, passwords found in known data breaches aren't accepted), and verify your email by clicking the link we send within a few minutes.
- Set up multi-factor authentication (MFA). Required to finish creating your account. You'll be guided through it before you reach the dashboard. See Setting up and managing MFA for the full walkthrough.
Step 4: Take the 4-question onboarding survey
- A fast 4-question survey at the end of signup. Your answers generate a personalized path through Estate Kit: the order and emphasis of what you fill in next.
- The personalized path is optimized for the highest-priority items your Executor or Power of Attorney would need access to in the first 48 hours to 2 weeks if they needed to step into your shoes.
- There are no wrong answers, and you can change anything later.
Step 5: Land on your personalized dashboard
- After the survey, you land on your personalized Dashboard.
- Your dashboard surfaces your Estate Readiness Progress, labeled Your Readiness, and your current "next up" task front and centre. Three tabs organize the recommended sequence (The First 48, Ease the Load, and Preserve), and the My Path button (bottom-right of the dashboard) keeps your full sequence one tap away.
- The personalized path is a suggestion, not a constraint. You can navigate to any section in any order, at any time.
- Estate Kit is organized into three areas:
- Estate Organization (17 sections grouped into four categories: About You, Finances, Directives, For Loved Ones)
- Estate Planning Tools (the planning tools, including the Estate Readiness Assessment and the Knowledge Hub)
- Vault Search and Share (your searchable surface for the most sensitive items)
