Editing is meant to be easy
- Your Estate Kit is built to grow and change with you. Sections, entries, permissions, Trusted Contacts, and your life-status setup are all editable as your life evolves.
- There is no "finished" state, and most edits do not require permissions, paperwork, or a support ticket.
- A few things have safeguards that are not reversible from your side (information already released to a Trusted Contact after a confirmed life status, and a confirmed death). These are called out under "What edits cannot do" below.
Keeping your Estate Kit current
Estate Kit is meant to be a living record, not a one-time fill-out. Every six months, you will receive a check-in email to log in and answer questions about common updates: new addresses, accounts, contacts, beneficiaries, and major life events. The goal is to make keeping your kit current routine rather than something you have to remember on your own.
How to edit a section
- Open the section you wish to update by clicking Edit.
- Make your changes in place. Fields, lists, and uploaded documents are all editable. Some sections save automatically; others have an explicit Save button at the bottom. When you finish a section, you can choose Just Save to keep it in progress, or Mark as Complete (see Understanding your personalized Estate Kit dashboard for the full Mark Status / Flag for Later workflow).
- Your changes are reflected immediately for any Trusted Contacts who already have access to that section.
How edits affect what your Trusted Contacts see
- For information set to Now access: Trusted Contacts see the latest version the next time they sign in. Estate Kit does not notify them by default.
- For information set to Upon Incapacity or After Passing access: Trusted Contacts still see nothing until the relevant life status is confirmed, and at that point they see the current version.
Trusted Contacts with edit access
- Trusted Contacts you have granted Full Access can add, modify, or delete information within any section you have shared with them, the same way you can. If you want a Trusted Contact to see your information without being able to change it, grant View Access instead (see How sharing and permissions work for the View vs Full Access model).
- Your dashboard has a Recent Changes panel that records every edit to your kit, by you or by anyone with Full Access. You can see what was changed, when, and by whom, so a Trusted Contact's activity is always visible to you.
- You can revoke or downgrade a Trusted Contact's access at any time while you are managing your own account (see How sharing and permissions work).
Common edits and where they happen
- Your name: Settings → My Profile (see Updating your account information). Email and phone changes go through support.
- Adding or removing a Trusted Contact: through Sharing & Permissions (see Inviting Trusted Contacts to your Estate Kit).
- Changing what a Trusted Contact can see: through Edit Permissions under that contact's detail in Sharing & Permissions (see Inviting Trusted Contacts to your Estate Kit).
- Changing your Executor or other legal key role: same flow as adding a Trusted Contact (see Inviting Trusted Contacts to your Estate Kit), reassigning the role.
- Updating financial accounts after a bank change: Financial Accounts under Finances.
- Adding a new section that wasn't relevant before (for example, Pet Care after getting a dog): open the section and start filling it in.
What gets preserved when you edit
- Your permissions and life-status settings stay the same when you edit content within a section.
- Editing one Trusted Contact's permissions does not disturb other Trusted Contacts.
- Editing your life-status setup does not release information early; the Status Verifier confirmation and Access Delay still apply (see Life status changes).
What edits cannot do
- You cannot change information that has already been released to a Trusted Contact via a confirmed life-status trigger. Once delivered, the past release stands; you can change the source content for any future release.
- You cannot reverse a confirmed death from your side; a Status Verifier or Estate Kit support can still update the status if needed (see Life status changes).
- Deleted content cannot be recovered. Be sure before you delete.
